While most flight simulators are designed to teach procedural behavior (how to fly a real airplane) and other are mission oriented (dog fight WWI & WWII), Ikaro is neither of those. With Ikaro you will experience the freedom of flight, the joy of low altitude exploration a nd the fun of play typical of arcade games.
Develop your sense of position in the air, exercise your ability, improve your reaction time , with diligent practice you can achieve a great flight coordination. As you go through all the different levels of the game, your skill will improve and you will be able to take on additional challenge.

The camera views during and after the game session highlight the inherent beauty of the surroundings creating a truly immersive experience. Since Ikaro is a very dynamic game the player must always be ever-alert, soaking in the scenary but wary of what lies ahead. The typical on screen representation of the player is the shape of the airplane from behind, but if preferable it is possible to experience the session from inside the cockpit.

Ikaro is designed to support multiplayer competition either through your LAN or using your Internet ADSL connection. You can be the owner of the gaming session and invite other friends, or you can be one of the remote players in somebody else’s gaming session.
Up to six players can race simultaneously in a multiplayer gaming session. The rules are basically the same except for the fact that the owner of the gaming session gets to choose the setting (scenarios, Nr. of laps etc..) while each player has the ability to choose his preferred airplane.

Instrumentation is minimal and easy to read. The main instrument in the center is the artificial horizon surrounded by a compass. On the left we can read the engine RPM and the altitude while on the right we can read the ground’s speed.
Since every session of the game is fully recorded, the player can go back and watch its performance and that of other players from many different view angles. In this case several controls can be used in order to view the recording in slow motion, high speed, freeze etc..
